Without User Consent: An Ethical Dilemma for WordPress Plugin Developers

I recently discovered that a popular WordPress plugin had enabled automatic updates without explicitly informing users. How did I find out? I received emails from each site where the plugin was installed informing me that an update had been completed. But it gets better. Over a holiday break, a colleague asked me to look at…

Are lighthouse scores important at all (regarding SEO)?

I’ve that lighthouse scores are good for SEO. Based on this, I figured that the campaign teams for politicians would might care about their lighthouse scores, so I looked up Trump’s and Biden’s website and both had pretty awful scores.

Then I thought, maybe Andrew Yang will have a good score, because he’s supposed to be the tech candidate, but no, it also sucked

If these campaign teams don’t care about their lighthouse scores, is it really that important, and does it really have that much of an impact on SEO?

Help with Hosting and SEO for landing pages

Hello everyone. Since September I started in the world of web dev. I think I am quite proficient with creating static content with HTML (semantics), CSS (responsive web sites, positioning, flexbox and grid) and a bit of JS (hamburger menu implementation, dark mode, event handling, content that appears on scroll down). The situation is that I am short of money and I see an opportunity to create a “landing page” for some companies and / or businesses close to me. But before offering my service I would like to ask a few questions:

What should I know about hosting? I have to take care of the hosting of the web pages and I need to know that I should learn about security issues or whatever else is behind the web page hosting. I know that there are multiple platforms to host static projects for free such as GitHub but most likely companies and / or businesses want “name.com” domains, so I would like to know the most used services with a good price.

What should I know about the SEO? In the HTML, regardless of the content added in the body tag, only external .css and .js files will be linked, as well as setting the favicon and UTF-8, but I know there are other important “meta tags” that help with the visibility of the pages in search engines.

Where you reside, how much would you charge for a “landing page” like this? I am not the creator of that page but I place it as a reference because it is very similar to what I want to offer and I know that I could do it without problems. I know that the prices are variable depending on the area, but it would help me to have a reference.

In general, what other things should I know? Anything else you may need I would like to know 🙂

My goal is to continue learning JS and then learn React but in the meantime I need to earn some money and I think it’s a good opportunity. Thanks for the help!

Display WooCommerce Categories, Subcategories, and Products in Separate Lists

What You’ll Be Creating WooCommerce gives you a few options as to what you can display on your archive pages: products categories (on the main shop page) or subcategories (on category pages) both products and categories. When I’m setting up a store, I normally select the third option: products and categories/subcategories. This means visitors to…
