There is no doubt that logo design is one of the most important aspects of designing a brand identity. However, it can also be the most difficult part of it. While it’s true that a logo design needs to be unique and memorable, sometimes, you can’t avoid that creative block. Or sometimes, you might have…Details
I made a site to help gamers find clans and communities, with forms and Discord integration, called Gather 🎮
Check it out here!
Thanks for taking an interest in my site. If you have any feedback, I’d be happy to hear it. You’re welcome to join the Discord.
Support 🤔. If you need help, check the guides, and join the Discord.
Search 🔍. Search is the main feature. You can use a wide range of filters, including for specific games. Concise information about each result is shown, with a call to action helping you to get involved with the community right away.
Alternatives 🧭. There are other sites to find a clan. For instance, siegrs.gg is great for Siege. I think Gather offers a unique combination of granular filters, seamless integration of multiple games, and randomised ordering of results for fairness.
Aesthetics 🎨. I hope the aesthetic is not too unexciting – it’s not quite my wheelhouse! 😉
Permissions 🔒. Please let me know if you have any issues with the permissions system, or have any thoughts on how the user experience can be improved. The system affords more flexibility than, say, the one in Discord, but that also makes it a little more complex, particularly as there is no simple hierarchy. I made two recent changes. First, you can now assign a permission to all roles or all forms, removing the need to specify each and every role or form. Second, you can assign the ‘Administrator’ permission, which grants power over everything.
Forms ✍️. An optional extra are forms, useful for some communities. I wanted to improve on what Enjin offers in this regard. In particular, users can share their Discord, Steam, or Blizzard accounts, which avoids the confusion of people using the wrong format or leaving out a discriminator (e.g. #1234). You can also change a form without affecting historical applications – all fields remain intact, with no data loss. It’s also privacy-friendly – applicants can revoke applications in whole or in part.
Discord 🕹️. The Discord bot can synchronise roles and notify you about form submissions.
API 🤖. The API has been designed with third party use in mind. The Discord bot actually uses the event system, which is open to everyone to use. The API isn’t currently documented, but if anyone is interested in using it, please get in touch.
SEO 🔍. I set up a search page for each game, but not many of them are being indexed at the moment. I think this is because there are simply not enough communities on the platform at the moment, and so many of the pages have similar content.
Background 💡. I came up with this idea as I am a clan leader myself. We used Enjin for years, but with the advent of Discord, that didn’t make sense anymore. Things like forum boards, blogs, and galleries just weren’t needed. There were some things we wanted, like application forms and discoverability through a recruitment system. So I conceived of Gather as a kind of lightweight compliment to Discord which stays out of the way for the most part and helps you where it can.
Note for moderators: I tried to post this on my Gather-specific account, here, but the account doesn’t have enough karma to post.Details
When it comes to creating PowerPoint slideshows, using a simple PowerPoint template can be a key approach. It may seem like a good idea to throw the kitchen sink: data, stats, charts, and shapes into every slide, but you’ll never be able to win over your audience with a cluttered slideshow design. That’s why professionals…Details
After completing a bootcamp in March 2019, I was overwhelmed by the choice of frameworks, libraries, languages, and courses I had to choose from to continue independent learning and hopefully score myself one of those elusive junior developer jobs. Almost everyone I spoke with had a different opinion on what was important and worth pursuing,…Details

Hey all.I have experience as a front end web developer. I’m working with a small team on an NPM like website for a package manager. We also plan to allow users to sell digital assets eventually, possibly using a cryptocurrency. So I’m trying to figure out a good stack for this. I don’t have experience with serverless sites. I’ve used Drupal, I have some experience with Node. I’m expecting to have a lot of learning to do.
The most important need is to host packages that people can download and install using the package manager. As well as being able to upload packages of their own. The actual site will be a place to search, view, and upload packages, similar to npmjs.com
Any recommendations on what backend to use for this project and why would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Almost everyone you talk to is interested in search engine optimization. And for good reason: You want as many people to see your website as possible and find it in relevant search results. But did you know that user experience can be one of the most important factors that contribute to SEO and overall search…Details
When HP first hired designers in the founding years of the Silicon Valley, their attitude was to hire people who weren’t smart enough to be engineers but were smart enough to do technical drawings and out the logo on the box.
Yes, graphic design is centuries old but respect was not really paid to technology companies until Steve Jobs. It was the attitude of many technology companies years ago to bring in designers at the end of the cycle to make things look nicer, lipstick on a pig, it’s only been recently that designers have been core from the early stages.
I don’t think the author meant any offense. If anything he’s commenting on how design wasn’t given its proper due in years past.
