I’m a web developer with a few different open-source packages, SaaS apps, and video course side projects, a few are pretty popular and bring in varying amounts of income each month. Everything is wrapped up under my name (GitHub username, bank accounts, etc).
One of my goals I had this year was to start working toward creating a development agency and take on some freelance and consulting clients. My thought process is that if I wrapped my side projects under this business name, it could help two-fold:
Drive traffic and increase exposure to the agency through those open-source projects, blog articles, footer links, etc.
Consolidate and separate my income streams from my personal life and bank account.
Examples would be something like spatie.be, beyondco.de, and serversforhackers.com
The biggest problem with this though, is that I’m worried my projects will suffer if I move them off of my personal name to the agency name. I could just reserve the agency name for future open-source projects and apps, keeping the ones that are already popular under my name, but then again that kind of defeats the purpose of what I laid out above. I’m leaning toward moving everything I have over to the agency name and dealing with the traffic or reputation suffering, hoping it doesn’t take too bad of a hit.
Any suggestions or recommendations, especially if you’ve faced a similar problem before, would be super appreciated
